CHALLENGE :: As the industrywide slump in electronic components
stretched on, our Cannon C&K switch business found itself
facing challenges from offshore competitors, and dealing with
excessive inventory and capacity levels.
SOLUTION :: In 2003, C&K completed a complex, 22-phase transition
of its switch product lines, moving more than 60 percent of its
business from high-cost regions to low-cost regions in Costa Rica
and China to be closer to its customers. In the process, it met all customer
service and delivery expectations, improving on-time delivery,
reducing scrap and increasing profit margins.
