CHALLENGE :: Combined rear brakes demand high coefficients of
static friction for parking and lower friction levels for stopping. That
works fine with fluids and hydraulics. But today’s sensor-operated
systems seemed to make this double duty impossible.
SOLUTION :: European car makers were considering costly alternatives
to combined braking systems until product designers from our
Galfer friction materials business figured out how to increase static friction
without incurring a similar increase in dynamic friction. The result:
we are now Europe’s leading producer of pads for combined brakes.
