CHALLENGE :: Our Goulds Pumps PumpSmart® system lets pumps operate at their highest efficiency point. But customers wanted a way to tell when it was time to rebuild their pumps because of wear. Could that be calculated using only one measurement?

SOLUTION :: Researchers Gene Sabini and Jerry Lorenc decided to abandon traditional pump theory and began looking at flow, torque and temperature in a new way. For more than a year, they tested ways to verify pump degradation using only one variable — discharge pressure — finally arriving at a patented algorithm that sends out an alarm when the pump has reached a critical point.
