CHALLENGE :: In the pumping world, engineers have long accepted
the fact that any time there is a dynamic seal — a seal between two
moving parts — there will also be leakage. But Johan Fondelius was
determined to prove this rule wrong.
SOLUTION :: In 2003, using a patented sealing system that directs
the leakage upstream away from the dry side of the seal to the wet
side, Johan designed a “zero-leakage pump seal.” The seal itself
acts as a micropump capable of reversing the flow of leaking liquid.
Our pumps are living longer thanks to Johan’s refusal to accept
leaks as an unalterable fact of life.
