CHALLENGE :: On Toas Island in Venezuela, residents couldn’t
depend on the corroded water pipeline from the mainland, and a
desalinization system had failed in the first week. There seemed to
be no way to bring fresh water to the frustrated islanders.
SOLUTION :: Engineers at our Sanitaire business created a highly
engineered, desalinization system that could adjust to Lake
Maracaibo’s fluctuating salinity levels. In 2003, the system was transported
to the remote island, and Mainor Vega spent nearly a month
working 15-hour days to oversee the installation. Today on Toas, hope is as high as the fresh water levels in the island’s storage tanks.
